A Little Mother’s Day Magnificence

Happy Mother’s Day to all the rock star moms out there! I hope everyone is taking this time to enjoy this special, national American holiday with their loved ones. ..

I know that there are some of us who might be missing our mothers; for those who are not with us, we are honoring them in our hearts. We dedicate this day to all mamas as we celebrate this year a little differently. How I wish I could hug my mom right now. I am longing for all of us to be closer together and my son could just run in her backyard with the family dog but it didn’t happen this year. Usually my mother comes to visit me at the Baccarat Hotel to have High Tea in the Grand Salon as I would be scheduled to work today. The Grand Salon is the world famous lounge and/or dining room where hotel guests and patrons can indulge in a 5 star luxurious high tea experience designed by architects Gilles & Bossier. Baccarat Hotel’s Grand Salon is adorned with Baccarat crystal from every vantage point possible as the point is to wow you while you sit in this room filled with rainbow prisms reflecting everywhere between half past 11am and 12noon. Pictured below is my mom (centered left) and her fabulous crew in the private Petit Salon enjoying afternoon tea on a summer day last year, 2019.

The Grand Salon normally would be open all day from breakfast which is served at 6:30am all the way to dinner which ends at 10:30pm, last call on Sunday’s, but afternoon tea in these gorgeous rooms are the main attraction especially for Mother’s Day.

I am especially emotional because I wish I would’ve been there right now with my mom as I imagine she would be enjoying her Citrus Garden mock-tail with Seedlip non-alcoholic, since she loves the herbaceous non-alcoholic drinks. I’d be so busy not noticing the time go by. The Grand Salon would’ve been sold out for High Tea and Gabrielle Jamal, our tea sommelier would be welcoming the first seating close to half past 12. I would be prepping the fabulous Mother’s Day cocktail of the day that our Bar Director, Antoine Hodge would have created, while making mouth watering mock-tails & fresh fruit Bellinis for the guests who are already enjoying the Grand Salon’s opulence on a gorgeous, sunny Mother’s Day. I guess I feel a little bummed out that COVID-19 ruined a day like today for me. There are certain holidays that have a lot of meaning and today certainly is one of those.

The past 8 weeks have felt like they went by so fast and so slow at the same time. So weird.

It’s 3pm on a Sunday afternoon and it’s like the twilight zone outside. Folks are out but definitely not comfortable having to wear “facial coverings”. The Meatpacking District’s ghost town was jarring during this time of day and the thought in my mind was to hurry home. It’s not enjoyable at all but fresh air is what we really need the most, even still there’s an overwhelming amount of discomfort. I’m a little chilly, it’s not as warm as I imagined. And it did snow yesterday here in New York City. In France, freezing, icy snow in May is called "Ice Saints" so it’s no surprise to some. I am over it though, which probably explains my somber mood. Plus, the last thing I need right now is to catch a cold because I didn't wear a scarf.

I decided to FaceTime my mom on my way back to our apartment to see what she was up to. I noticed during this pause I have been speaking to her more than normal and I don’t mind.

I was thrilled to catch her as she was ranting and raving about her Mother’s Day present which I was so thrilled that she received it the day before today in the mail. My mom was so excited about her care package from Wild Roots Apothecary. She was sipping on a cup of the Snot and Sniffle Wellness Tea ($12 .00) with their house made cinnamon and ginger infused honey ($15.00).

“Mmmmmm”, she belts out as I’m thinking a cup of hot tea would be perfect right about now.

My mom was repeatedly telling me to order more for me and the boys before it’s all gone in her cute Filipino accent. “Duly noted Mom!” I reply facetiously.

My mom is a retired R.N. and knows a thing or two on what’s good for you so I follow her advice. But this time I’ll take the credit because if it wasn’t for my friend Julie Huber, who I did meet at the Baccarat Bar 3 years ago, I would’ve never known. During the start of COVID19 she and I were in communication with each other almost every day and she insisted I check out www.wildrootsapothecary.com. I was looking for something to keep my immunity up. After visiting the website, I was hooked. I was surviving off of the Respiratory Relief custom tincture ($16.00) since March and bought a few of the Four Thieves hand sanitizers which smelled incredibly dreamy ($15.00), where each one bought, the proceeds will be donated to first responders. ( virtual high fives) The company was founded by Colleen O’Bryant, an awesome mom who studied Holistic nutrition and western herbalism. She believes plants are magic. So does Adrien; I completely understand and have grown to appreciate it as well. Plus after being a mother, my interests have shifted towards immunity and being 100% well so I can raise my son the best that I can. Anything to have me healthy as a horse all year round was right up my alley.

Colleen has helped many people who have had illnesses and introduced them to natural healing approaches. I am so relieved that I have found a forum to strengthen my curiosity and interest. Sometimes western medicine hasn’t been effective on some folks like me for example and to know there is someone who is passionate about plants & herbs as well as homeopathic medicine and lifestyle is beyond special. The products that she offers are all 100% natural ingredients and remedies. In the meantime I highly recommend everyone being on their immunity “A game” at all times.

With some of us returning to work if not already we should all be prepared.

These are the goodies I got for my mom on Mother’s Day. Even though she might not be having high tea with her besties at the Baccarat, at least I know she’s having the best of the best, made with love at the comfort of her home.

As I hung up with my mom I realized that I was in a much better place than I was before. I needed a walk for exercise, fresh air for my brain and a moment just with her. It turns out all I needed was to see her face and witness her enjoying a cup of tea; from there everything was fine. The Immunity Bundle was the best gift I could’ve ever gotten for her. Everything is fine!

Check out Colleen O’Bryant’s website and the amazing products she offers for keeping your immunity at its best, for you and your loved ones.
