Avast ye & sip some sensational Bumbu Rum!

Updated: May 9, 2020

We discovered a 5 star rum that’s destined to whisk you away to a white sandy paradise.

When it comes to trying new spirits and not having the opportunity to taste before you buy, what drives you as a consumer to pick one up and take a leap of faith? For us, it was the look of the Bumbu Rum bottle and the story behind their very existence. It was a rainy Thursday afternoon, and Adrien and I were feeling adventurous. We weren't going to let the dismal weather bring us down. We decided to go on our favorite drinks app, Drizly and indulge in the convenience of them coming to our front door within the hour.

Surprise, surprise! I've never seen it before. So, we picked it up and cracked it open like 2 thirsty pirates. The nose of it was just divine. I was already hooked.

Founded in 1893, the distillery of Bumbu Rum sits just steps away from the island’s tropical beach. Bumbu Rum is a product from Barbados, sweet & robust, complex, yet smooth like velvet. It is a rum that’s enjoyable to sip alone or accompanied with your favorite hand rolled cigar. This artisanal rum is a masterpiece that hails from a 16th century native recipe. The recipe uses the exact same authentic native spices without the use of artificial flavors. The sugar cane gathered from all over the West Indies are top notch, superb quality as they are aged up to 15 years in Kentucky bourbon barrels. Imagine Pirate Jean Lafitte saying “la classe” as he sails away on his next voyage headed back east.

Tasting Notes:

-smokey apricots

-crème caramel

-vanilla

-toasted banana citrus & banana

The spirit alone is easy to drink neat or on the rocks with just a twist of orange.

These flavors will bring the island's essence to your taste buds for a pleasurable experience and it will make a fantastic addition to your home bar.

The bottle itself with an “X” marks the spot, unleashes your inner pirate as it’s made with quality heavy weight glass adorned with gold accents and a large cork atop. When we’re done with this bottle, I’m definitely writing a message inside and using it for a time capsule. In the mean time we’ll be making Hotel Nacionals and Daquiris with this baby!

Eat, Drink and Be Merry AF!
