Happy Sunday! already craving another fantastic Mezcal-rita!

Updated: May 9, 2020

“Babe, you wanna get dinner from Fonda tonight?” As it will be our second day in a row, I shouted from the other side of our apartment. After our discovery of ordering from Fonda NYC in our neighborhood yesterday I think it’s do-ABLE.

It was around 3ish on a Saturday afternoon when I asked Adrien, “I’m hungry! Can you just order something…”.

At that point my frame of thought was just go through Grubhub and make a selection because I just wanted something to switch up the pace. I mean, quarantine is soooo predictable wouldn’t you agree? Besides, we’ve cooked all week, I think it’s safe to say we can treat ourselves! Well, Adrien at least. He’s the chef, but my point is I just wanted a freakin’ change but there was absolutely no excitement within my request. I didn’t expect anything as the bar was set really low, I just wanted to fill my belly with a sub par chicken salad from the deli but my soul really really wanted Mexican food. Problem was, the last few times we’ve ordered from places like Uber Eats, Grub Hub, and Caviar we haven’t felt that it was worth the money especially during times of uncertainty.

Yesterday, however was a completely different experience when we ordered from Fonda NYC via Grubhub.

We ordered 2 Carne Asada Taquitos, 1 corn esquite, and guacamole. Then Adrien’s genius idea popped up and was music to my ears when he asked, “wanna get a pitcher of mezcal-ritas?”. “Ummm yeahhhhh?!”I replied without any hesitation. One thing about me is I take pride in being a true “ride or die chick”. I’m not going to go half ass on anything.

After placing our order, I continued where I left off on my binge watching of Foodlore. Within half an hour our delivery came; it was pleasantly fast.

Everything was packaged nicely including our pitcher of mezcal-ritas for $30.00 that arrived in a tight sealed quart container and another quart container filled with cold draft ice. Worth every penny. It was nicely balanced and the lime juice was freshhh (so much so that fresh needed 3 “h’s”). We each had 2 full generous servings and a fabulous buzz. Just delicious, I felt like I was on vacation.

Even though it was a Saturday, this definitely fit the bill of a happy hour.

The food was spectacular. I can’t tell you how juicy the carne asada was, you’d have to try it for yourself but it was seasoned so flavorfully with cilantro and lime, which came in 3 taquitos per order. The guacamole was so green and fresh, we felt the love when they prepared the dish. So for a perfect happy hour during the week for 2 people, it’s worth it indeed.

Overall we were just so thrilled especially because we didn’t expect to have such a fun time having delivery at home. I think Fonda NYC might be hearing from us more often also because Cinco de Mayo is coming up very soon. Even though we will be celebrating a different way this year due to COVID-19, Fonda NYC will be keeping our spirits high for Cinco de Mayo and as long as we will be living down the street.

La Fonda NYC gave us the feeling of a Mexican restaurant coming to our apartment and during times like these, it’s refreshing and sure gives us hope as a community, as New Yorkers!

Order here for Cinco de Mayo from one of the 3 locations here in NYC.
